East Pearl Teahouse

In a calm, quiet area miraculously untouched by rubble and decay...

...the East Pearl welcomes all who enjoy the sweet and refreshing flavors of tea. 

On the outside, the East Pearl resembles a tiny pentagonal shrine surrounded by reeds and bamboo on all sides. The building serenely stands over a koi pond, and a bamboo bridge connects the mainland and the East Pearl over the pond. 

As a result of their blisters, the koi have all sprouted legs to walk with but have not grown lungs to breathe raw oxygen in. Occasionally, a courageous few will climb outside the pond to see the walking world, then return to the comfort of the water when they can no longer hold their breath.

On the inside, block prints and calligraphy 

scrolls tastefully fill the empty space on the East Pearl’s wooden walls, and tatami mats partially cover the shop’s bamboo flooring. There is a large window on each wall, nearly three feet wide, and it can be opened to let in fresh air and sunlight. Tables that can seat four customers are pushed against each wall. 

A pure jade statue resembling an important-looking human proudly sits cross-legged in the center of the East Pearl, smiling peacefully at any who enter. Laying on top of this statue’s crossed legs rests another one resembling a sleeping red panda.
